Diepwater (2024)
in collaboration with Ster BorgmanThere is almost no place imaginable where you find yourself further from nature than the bowling alley. Cut off from the outside world, players find themselves in a totally artificial space, where there is no place for natural elements.
Bowling Centre Groningen is located on the Gedempte Kattendiep, a street that was originally built as a canal in the early 13th century, but was turned back into land towards the end of the 19th century. The excavation, damming and control of waterways raises the questions of what had to give way for the city. What minerals were found here and what organisms once lived here? And what if they took over this space again?
