the king must sleep now (2024)

groningen, the netherlands.

*exhibition text*:

“Inspired by his mother's belief in naming him after a king for strength, Van der Velde decided to delve into his namesake's history. This curiosity led him to explore the life of King Sverrir Sigurdsson (1151-1202). A dialogue between Sverrir’s and Sverre’s dreams forms the basis of a playful yet profound exploration of historical narrative and personal reflection.

The video installation on display delves into identity, masculinity, and relationships, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own connections to these topics.”
